DeFi puede ser un complemento a las finanzas centralizadas, ya que estas tecnologías pueden mejorar la eficiencia en las actividades financieras tradicionales, dijo el viernes el gobernador de la Fed, Christopher Waller, en el Taller de Macroeconomía de Viena. También ve a DeFi como un sustituto de las finanzas centralizadas, ya que permite a las personas intercambiar activos sin intermediarios.
“En lugar de depender de que cada parte lleve a cabo la transacción por separado, los contratos inteligentes pueden combinar efectivamente múltiples partes de una transacción en un único acto unificado ejecutado por un contrato inteligente. Esto puede aportar valor, ya que puede mitigar los riesgos asociados con la liquidación y los riesgos de contraparte al garantizar que el comprador no pagará si el vendedor no cumple. Si bien estos esfuerzos aún se encuentran en las primeras etapas, la funcionalidad podría expandirse a un amplio conjunto de actividades financieras”, Waller dicho.
“Cosas como DLT (tecnología de contabilidad distribuida), tokenización y contratos inteligentes son solo tecnologías para el comercio que pueden usarse en DeFi o también para mejorar la eficiencia en las finanzas centralizadas. Por eso los veo como complementos”, añadió.
Waller también se refirió a los beneficios y desventajas de los intermediarios financieros, que a menudo han facilitado el comercio al reducir el tiempo y el costo asociados con la búsqueda de socios comerciales.
Señaló que si bien los intermediarios ayudan a conectar a compradores y vendedores, también introducen costos de transacción y problemas de control, lo que a menudo conduce a una desalineación de incentivos entre el principal y el agente.
Históricamente, los avances tecnológicos han impulsado cambios en las finanzas, y DeFi representa la última ola de innovación destinada a mejorar los procesos comerciales.
Waller habló sobre el importante papel de las monedas estables en DeFi. Describió las monedas estables como “moneda efectivamente digital” que ayuda a reducir la necesidad de intermediarios de pago tradicionales y reducir los costos de pago globales.
Según Waller, los fundamentos tecnológicos de DeFi, incluidos blockchain y contratos inteligentes, “conducirán casi con certeza a ganancias de eficiencia con el tiempo”.
Si bien las tecnologías DeFi ofrecen beneficios prometedores, existen preocupaciones con respecto a su seguridad, confiabilidad y posibles implicaciones regulatorias, afirmó Waller. También advirtió sobre los riesgos asociados con las monedas estables, incluido su uso potencial en finanzas ilícitas y el precedente histórico de dólares sintéticos que enfrentan corridas.
El formulador de políticas instó a regulaciones adaptadas para maximizar las ventajas de DeFi de manera segura. Además, pidió una visión equilibrada que considere tanto el potencial disruptivo de DeFi como el valor duradero de los sistemas financieros centralizados.
“Cuando se trata de nuestro sistema financiero, que afecta a cada persona o empresa de una forma u otra, creo que se merece una visión equilibrada de la disrupción rápida y la sostenibilidad a largo plazo”, dijo.
