Tether Holdings, el emisor de la moneda estable más grande del mundo, USDT, está explorando la posibilidad de otorgar préstamos a empresas comercializadoras de materias primas, según un Informe Bloomberg.
La criptoempresa ha mantenido conversaciones con varias empresas comercializadoras de productos básicos sobre posibles oportunidades de préstamos en dólares estadounidenses, según personas familiarizadas con el asunto.
Los comerciantes de materias primas, en particular las empresas más pequeñas, a menudo dependen de líneas de crédito para financiar envíos de petróleo, metales y alimentos a todo el mundo, pero acceder a fondos se ha vuelto cada vez más difícil.
Si bien los principales actores de la industria del comercio de materias primas tienen acceso a amplias redes crediticias, las empresas más pequeñas a menudo tienen dificultades para conseguir financiación. La propuesta de Tether ofrece una alternativa que podría agilizar los pagos y las transacciones, evitando las estrictas condiciones regulatorias de las instituciones financieras tradicionales.
En una entrevista con Bloomberg News, el director ejecutivo de Tether, Paolo Ardoino, confirmó el interés de la compañía en la financiación del comercio de materias primas, pero enfatizó que las discusiones son preliminares.
“Estamos interesados en explorar diferentes posibilidades de comercio de productos básicos”, dijo Ardoino, añadiendo que las oportunidades en el sector podrían ser “enormes en el futuro”.
Si bien Ardoino se negó a revelar cuánto pretende invertir la empresa en el comercio de materias primas, indicó que Tether está definiendo cuidadosamente su estrategia.
“Probablemente no vamos a revelar cuánto pretendemos invertir en el comercio de materias primas. Todavía estamos definiendo la estrategia”, dijo Ardoino.
Según los informes, el USDT de Tether ya ha sido utilizado en transacciones transfronterizas por los principales productores de metales rusos y la petrolera estatal venezolana PDVSA. El papel de la moneda estable a la hora de facilitar el comercio internacional, particularmente en mercados sancionados, destaca el potencial de una infraestructura financiera alternativa para apoyar al sector de las materias primas.
