Esto pone de relieve la estrategia más amplia del grupo para reducir la dependencia del dólar estadounidense y afirmar una mayor independencia económica. Putin señaló que las monedas digitales podrían beneficiar tanto a los miembros del BRICS como a las economías en desarrollo.
Putin mencionó que Rusia, junto con otros miembros del BRICS, ya ha estado trabajando en un sistema de mensajería financiera similar a SWIFT y el uso de monedas digitales nacionales para financiar proyectos de inversión de alto crecimiento.
Además de las monedas digitales, el bloque BRICS se está preparando para lanzar la plataforma BRICS Pay, un sistema de pago basado en blockchain destinado a facilitar las transacciones transfronterizas dentro de la alianza.
La plataforma se presentó en el foro y se considera una herramienta clave para reducir la dependencia de los sistemas financieros occidentales. Los miembros del BRICS, especialmente Rusia y China, han presionado para que se adopte para eludir las sanciones estadounidenses y disminuir la dependencia del dólar.
Además de las discusiones sobre moneda digital, Putin abordó la expansión de los BRICS y acogió con satisfacción la inclusión de Egipto, Etiopía, Irán y los Emiratos Árabes Unidos en el bloque.
Destacó que más de 30 países han expresado interés en cooperar con los BRICS y que la próxima cumbre en Kazán explorará posibles nuevos miembros.
Putin enfatizó que los BRICS generarán la mayor parte del crecimiento económico global en los próximos años, citando el gran tamaño del bloque y sus economías de rápido crecimiento en comparación con las naciones occidentales.
Como parte de las contribuciones de Rusia a los BRICS, Putin esbozó nuevas iniciativas financieras, incluido un sistema conjunto de pagos transfronterizos y una compañía de reaseguros.
Putin pidió además al Nuevo Banco de Desarrollo, la institución de desarrollo multilateral de los BRICS, que invierta en tecnología, infraestructura, comercio electrónico e inteligencia artificial en todo el Sur Global.
