Los ejecutivos de Visa y PayPal abogaron por una adopción más amplia de monedas estables durante un panel en el foro DC Fintech Week hoy.
El director de Criptomonedas de Visa, Cuy Sheffield, y el director ejecutivo de PayPal Digital, José Fernández da Ponte, subrayaron el potencial transformador de las monedas estables para agilizar las transacciones transfronterizas y remodelar los pagos globales.
La conversación se centró en cómo las monedas estables, que alguna vez se utilizaron principalmente en el comercio de criptomonedas, ahora se están convirtiendo en herramientas esenciales para optimizar los pagos internacionales de empresa a empresa (B2B) y de igual a igual (P2P).
Las monedas estables pueden reducir significativamente los tiempos de liquidación, permitir transacciones 24 horas al día, 7 días a la semana y minimizar los costos asociados con los métodos de pago transfronterizos tradicionales, como las transferencias SWIFT.
Fernández da Ponte enfatizó que las monedas estables están ayudando a las empresas a mover dinero de manera más rápida y eficiente a través de las fronteras, lo que permite una repatriación más rápida de ganancias y mejores tipos de cambio.
Señaló que los directores financieros están comenzando a adoptar monedas estables a medida que se dan cuenta de los beneficios de la liquidación inmediata y la reducción de los riesgos de contraparte.
Sheffield, mientras analizaba las aplicaciones en evolución de las monedas estables, introdujo el concepto de “sándwich de monedas estables”, en el que la moneda fiduciaria se utiliza en ambos extremos de una transacción, y las monedas estables facilitan la transferencia en el medio.
Este modelo ya ha demostrado ser eficaz para las empresas que mueven fondos de EE. UU. a México, donde las monedas estables se convierten en pesos a través de intercambios locales.
Anna Yuan, fundadora del proveedor de infraestructura de monedas estables Perena, también analizó cómo las cadenas de bloques de alto rendimiento, como Solana, se utilizan cada vez más para respaldar estas transacciones, lo que permite transferencias casi instantáneas.
Explicó que los tiempos de bloqueo rápidos hacen que Solana sea ideal para manejar transacciones de monedas estables, al tiempo que destaca los desafíos de la interoperabilidad entre cadenas entre redes más lentas.
Tanto los ejecutivos de Visa como de PayPal enfatizaron que las monedas estables ya no son solo una herramienta para los comerciantes de criptomonedas, sino que se están convirtiendo rápidamente en una piedra angular de los sistemas de pago globales modernos. Esperan que la tecnología sea adoptada cada vez más tanto por empresas como por consumidores.
