Menos de un año después de su lanzamiento, los ETF al contado de Bitcoin han registrado un crecimiento sin precedentes, impulsando el interés de los inversores y la demanda de la criptomoneda más grande.
Un reciente informe por Binance Research, el brazo de investigación del intercambio global de criptomonedas, reveló que los ETF de bitcoin han acumulado más de 938.000 BTC, por un valor de 63.300 millones de dólares. Esta cifra representa el 4,5% de la oferta circulante total de bitcoin. Sumar la cantidad mantenida en otros fondos similares eleva la cifra a 1,1 millones de BTC, aproximadamente el 5,2% del suministro circulante.
En particular, una parte del total de activos bajo gestión (AUM) de estos fondos se acumuló en los primeros meses de su lanzamiento. Sin embargo, el informe señala que las entradas de fondos a los fondos se han mantenido estables durante todo el año, lo que indica un interés sostenido de los inversores.
Los ETF de Bitcoin atraen entradas de 18.900 millones de dólares
Los ETF al contado de Bitcoin han impulsado la demanda del criptoactivo en los últimos meses. Como resultado, los fondos han eliminado constantemente del mercado un promedio de 1.100 BTC por día.
Además, los fondos han registrado flujos positivos en 24 de 40 semanas, y el valor de las entradas superó a las salidas por un amplio margen. En los últimos 10 meses, los ETF de Bitcoin han recibido flujos acumulados que superan los 21 mil millones de dólares.
Según el informe, los flujos de ETF de Bitcoin han superado el rendimiento inicial del primer ETF de oro, que actualmente tiene un AUM de 130,9 mil millones de dólares. El ETF de oro se consideró un gran éxito cuando registró 1.500 millones de dólares en entradas durante el primer año de su lanzamiento en 2005. Sin embargo, los flujos de ETF de Bitcoin han batido ese récord, alcanzando más de 21.000 millones de dólares en sólo 10 meses.
El IBIT de BlackRock, el GBTC de Grayscale y el FBTC de Fidelity representan aproximadamente el 84% del mercado total de ETF. Las entradas en IBIT constituyen la mayor parte de las entradas netas de ETF hasta la fecha.
Los inversores minoristas impulsan la demanda
El informe señaló que los inversores minoristas representan el 80% de la demanda de ETF de bitcoin. Si bien la demanda institucional es menor, ha mostrado un crecimiento constante en los últimos meses, un 7,9% más desde el primer trimestre.
También ha aumentado el número de inversores institucionales, que actualmente supera los 1.200. Los principales tenedores institucionales incluyen asesores de inversiones y fondos de cobertura, así como importantes bancos y fondos de pensiones como Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley y la Junta de Inversiones del Estado de Wisconsin.
Se espera que el interés institucional en los ETF de Bitcoin aumente en los próximos años a medida que los inversores se sientan más cómodos con los activos digitales. Esto es especialmente cierto ya que la correlación de bitcoin con el S&P 500 ha seguido aumentando desde principios de 2024, lo que pone de relieve un cambio en el sentimiento de los inversores hacia BTC como activo de refugio seguro.
Desafortunadamente, si bien los ETF de Bitcoin han prosperado, sus homólogos de Ethereum han recibido poca atención. Los fondos han registrado más de 103,1 millones de dólares en salidas, con flujos negativos en 8 de las 11 semanas desde su lanzamiento.
