En una encuesta realizada por ConsenSys sobre el conocimiento de las criptomonedas en África y los mercados emergentes, la proporción de encuestados que afirmaron que entendían las criptomonedas fue mucho mayor en Nigeria (78%), Corea del Sur (63%), Sudáfrica (61%), Brasil (59 %) e India (56%). Fueron mucho más bajos en Japón e Indonesia, y solo 1 de cada 3 confirmó que conocía las criptomonedas.

GameFi también experimentado crecimiento significativo en África, impulsado por la reducción de los costos de Internet móvil, un mayor acceso a teléfonos inteligentes y una población joven y conocedora de la tecnología. Los datos de Chainalysis mostraron que el mercado de criptomonedas en África creció más del 1200% entre 2020 y 2021, con Tanzania, Kenia y Sudáfrica entre los 20 principales en adopción de criptomonedas. Nigeria, Kenia y Sudáfrica recibieron más del 70% de la financiación de blockchain en África en 2021. El crecimiento de la financiación de las empresas de blockchain fue 11 veces mayor si se consideran 2021 y el primer trimestre de 2022.

Kenia tenía una alta tasa de adopción de criptomonedas, ubicándose en el quinto lugar a nivel mundial en propiedad de criptomonedas como proporción de la población total del país en 2021.
En 2021, Godwin Emeiele, gobernador de CBN, señaló que eNaira había alcanzado más de 840.000 descargas, con casi 270.000 billeteras activas que comprenden más de 250.000 billeteras de consumidores y alrededor de 17.000 billeteras comerciales desde que se lanzó eNaira. Según Afcacia.io, es probable que las grandes fintech estadounidenses como Coinbase, Block, ConsenSys y Circle expandan sus operaciones a África a través de asociaciones con plataformas Web3 locales. El informe mostró que las remesas representaron el 1,3% del PIB en el África subsahariana. El valor de la transacción creció a una tasa anual del 5,2% a 53 mil millones de dólares en 2022.
