Algunos escépticos podrían oponerse a las startups que anuncian su uso de IA y blockchain, las dos palabras de moda más importantes en los negocios hoy en día, creyendo que simplemente están tratando de aprovecharse del revuelo de ambas. Después de todo, si algunas empresas ya se dedican al lavado de IA, ¿por qué no dar un paso más y agregar también blockchain a la combinación?
En verdad, la intersección de la IA y la cadena de bloques no es una exageración de marketing. Como escribí en el informe del primer semestre de 2024 en HashKey Capital, la IA y la cadena de bloques son excepcionalmente complementarias y permiten soluciones mucho mayores que la suma de sus partes.
Blockchain soluciona los problemas de privacidad de la IA
Imagínese la cantidad de datos que ingresa diariamente en ChatGPT y otras herramientas similares. Ahora multiplique eso por todos los usuarios activos diarios, junto con los desarrolladores de LLM que están ingiriendo terabytes de datos para el entrenamiento de modelos. En resumen, el mundo está confiando una asombrosa cantidad de datos a la IA.
Por lo tanto, GenAI representa un importante vector de ataque para las violaciones de datos. Por ejemplo, los piratas informáticos podrían chantajear a las empresas publicando los registros GenAI de sus empleados, de forma similar a como amenazan con la filtración de datos privados en ataques de ransomware. Estos registros son especialmente sensibles dada la amplitud y profundidad de las preguntas, el contenido, los datos y la información confidencial que ingresamos en nuestras indicaciones.
Afortunadamente, uno de los principios clave de blockchain es la privacidad: a través de la descentralización, los usuarios se salvan del escrutinio público que a menudo acompaña a los sistemas centralizados, donde están sujetos a la investigación de intermediarios y otros grandes actores.
Con este fin, blockchain ha desarrollado varias tecnologías que pueden mejorar la privacidad, como ZKML, OPML y TEEML. Si bien cada uno presenta sus propias compensaciones, su implementación contribuirá en gran medida a mejorar tanto la privacidad de los datos como la privacidad del modelo. Al fortalecer la seguridad en torno a la IA, blockchain no solo reduce la amenaza de violaciones de datos, sino que también fomenta un sentido de confianza en los usuarios.
Blockchain hace que la IA sea sostenible
El auge de la genAI también requiere una gran cantidad de potencia computacional, lo que agota la energía mundial. Estas demandas también aumentarán exponencialmente a medida que más personas y empresas adopten la IA, sus casos de uso se vuelvan más diversos y ella misma se vuelva más poderosa, como en el desarrollo de capacidades multimodales.
Estas demandas colocan a las empresas en un dilema ético: si bien las empresas naturalmente quieren la mayor productividad y eficiencia que conlleva la IA, pueden reconsiderar su uso si esto implica dañar el medio ambiente. Esta mentalidad no es sólo lo correcto, sino también una cuestión de buenos negocios: el 77% de los consumidores prefiere patrocinar empresas ambiental y socialmente responsables.
Blockchain puede abordar las enormes demandas energéticas de la genAI a través de energía descentralizada, que busca producir y distribuir energía de manera inteligente a nivel local, una perspectiva más sostenible y eficiente que las redes centralizadas. Con blockchain, las empresas no tienen que elegir entre eficiencia y responsabilidad ambiental. Pueden imaginar un mundo mejorado mediante nuevas innovaciones y avanzar hacia ese futuro de manera sostenible.
Blockchain puede abrir la IA
Una crítica a la IA es que sus mayores beneficios se concentrarán en manos de “unos pocos”. La minoría que más se beneficiará de la IA son los desarrolladores de modelos como OpenAI y Anthropic y los grandes gigantes tecnológicos como Meta, Amazon, Google y Apple, que tienen la mayor cantidad de datos.
Estos críticos argumentan que la IA enriquecerá a estos actores a expensas de todos los demás. Los desarrolladores se beneficiarán directamente de sus modelos, aunque hayan sido capacitados en conjuntos de datos que incluían datos públicos. Los gigantes tecnológicos podrán crear los casos de uso más rentables en torno a la IA porque poseen la mayor cantidad de datos sobre los consumidores.
Este futuro no es ideal: la IA no debería ser como el oro o el petróleo, donde sólo una élite privilegiada obtiene los mayores beneficios. Afortunadamente, blockchain también puede ofrecer una solución en este caso. Debido a que blockchain es un libro de contabilidad público, las organizaciones pueden usarlo para compartir información más fácilmente, incluidos los datos e incluso los modelos centrales para la IA.
Algunas empresas han aprovechado esta propensión a compartir información a través de blockchain. Una de esas empresas es Carv, una capa de datos modular que permite a las empresas de juegos y de inteligencia artificial poseer, controlar y monetizar mejor sus datos. Las soluciones impulsadas por blockchain como Carv crearán inclusión, ampliando los beneficios de la IA a personas y organizaciones que de otro modo habrían quedado fuera de esta revolución.
Los mayores problemas del mundo
Blockchain alguna vez fue criticado como una solución en busca de un problema. Con el auge de la IA, blockchain ya no será una tecnología de nicho al margen de la sociedad. Debido a que blockchain aborda algunos de los desafíos de la IA (es decir, sus riesgos de seguridad, demandas de energía y posibles injusticias), las empresas con visión de futuro suficiente para emplear ambas disfrutarán de ventajas competitivas en el mercado y el mundo se beneficiará.
Las empresas podrán abordar los mayores problemas del mundo garantizando al mismo tiempo la privacidad de los datos y los modelos. A pesar de las demandas computacionales de este trabajo, pueden mejorar la sostenibilidad mediante el uso de energía descentralizada. Por último, y sobre todo, el intercambio de información a través de blockchain puede extender la tecnología a más personas, permitiendo en última instancia una distribución más equitativa del poder transformador de la IA. Y ese es un imperativo que todos debemos tomar en serio para desbloquear todo el potencial de la IA.
