Buenos Aires, la capital de Argentina, ha introducido oficialmente un sistema de identidad digital basado en blockchain llamado ID de Quarkofreciendo privacidad de datos avanzada para sus 3,6 millones de residentes.
Esta iniciativa marca un hito global significativo en la identidad descentralizada, siendo la primera implementación de dicha tecnología respaldada por el gobierno.
El sistema aprovecha la criptografía de conocimiento cero a través de ZKsync Era, una red de capa 2 de Ethereum. Está integrado en la plataforma MiBa de la ciudad, una aplicación que existe desde hace siete años y que se utiliza para acceder a servicios y documentos municipales.
QuarkID permite a los residentes administrar y compartir de forma segura documentos como certificados de nacimiento, registros fiscales y datos de vacunación, sin exponer información personal innecesaria.
Diego Fernández, Secretario de Innovación y Transformación Digital de Buenos Aires, enfatizó que el uso de tecnología de conocimiento cero mejora tanto la privacidad como la seguridad, permitiendo a los residentes ser dueños de sus datos personales.
La ciudad de Buenos Aires planea ampliar el sistema para incluir documentos adicionales, como licencias de conducir y permisos públicos, con la posibilidad de que QuarkID se adopte en otras provincias argentinas.
La iniciativa se está poniendo a prueba en varias regiones, incluidas Jujuy, Tucumán y la ciudad mendocina de Luján de Cuyo, y se planean más experimentos en Uruguay.
El uso de blockchain por parte de QuarkID garantiza la autenticidad de los documentos sin control externo, lo que reduce los riesgos de robo de identidad. El sistema es gratuito para los usuarios y reduce los gastos gubernamentales en comparación con los métodos tradicionales.
Este esfuerzo pionero de Buenos Aires sienta un precedente para que otras ciudades y gobiernos exploren la tecnología blockchain para mejorar los sistemas de identidad digital.
A medida que la ciudad amplíe la aplicación de QuarkID, se prevé que se puedan probar y ampliar modelos similares en toda América Latina.
