El Banco Central Euro (BCE) decidió recortar los tipos de interés en 25 puntos básicos durante su reunión de política monetaria de hoy, bajando el tipo de interés oficial del 3,5% al 3,25%. Esta es la tercera reducción de tipos del banco este año, después de que la tasa de inflación de septiembre cayera a un mínimo de tres años del 1,7%, por debajo de la estimación inicial del 1,8%.
La decisión del BCE era ampliamente esperada ya que las tasas de inflación, incluida la inflación general y la inflación básica, en la eurozona han estado disminuyendo. Desde que la inflación de septiembre cayó por debajo del objetivo del banco de alrededor del 2%, ha habido menos presión para subir las tasas de interés para frenar los aumentos de precios.
Además, antes de la reunión, varios funcionarios del BCE, entre ellos la presidenta Christine Lagarde y el gobernador del Banco de Francia, Francois Villeroy de Galhau, insinuado ante la posibilidad de un recorte de tipos. Lagarde expresó su confianza “en que la inflación volverá a alcanzar su objetivo de manera oportuna”.
El BCE hizo su primer recorte de tipos en junio, reduciendo su tipo de interés de referencia del 4% al 3,75%. A continuación, la segunda reducción llevó el tipo al 3,5% en septiembre. Los mercados financieros están descontando otro recorte de tipos de 25 puntos básicos hasta el 3% en diciembre tras la decisión de hoy.
Las preocupaciones económicas también se encuentran entre los factores que impulsan la decisión del BCE. La economía de la eurozona está experimentando un crecimiento lento y se prevé que el PIB del tercer trimestre estará estancado.
La estricta política monetaria y las cuestiones estructurales están contribuyendo a la desaceleración. Las tasas de interés más bajas pueden estimular la actividad económica en medio de desafíos de crecimiento, enfriamiento de los mercados laborales y riesgos geopolíticos.
Se espera que la disminución de las tasas de interés estimule el crecimiento económico y tenga un impacto positivo en los mercados de valores tradicionales. Esto, a su vez, podría aumentar el apetito de los inversores por activos más riesgosos como Bitcoin.
