La vicepresidenta de Estados Unidos, Kamala Harris, se ha comprometido a apoyar políticas de activos digitales que protejan a los inversores en criptomonedas, especialmente a los hombres negros que participan en el sector.
La promesa fue parte de una agenda de amplio alcance dirigida a hombres de color que el equipo del abanderado demócrata cree que podrían ser fundamentales en las elecciones presidenciales de noviembre.
Asegurar a los votantes masculinos negros a través de criptomonedas
En un 14 de octubre liberarla campaña de Harris prometió que su candidato crearía un marco regulatorio criptográfico propicio para proteger a los “hombres negros y otros” que participan en el mercado.
Harris señaló que el 20% de los negros en Estados Unidos poseen o han poseído anteriormente criptoactivos. También reconoció el papel que estaban desempeñando estas “nuevas tecnologías” en la ampliación de su acceso a servicios bancarios y financieros asequibles, algo que, admitió, les habían negado en el pasado.
Sin embargo, el equipo no proporcionó más detalles sobre qué implicaría exactamente el marco regulatorio que se propugna.
El candidato, que luego habló en un evento en Erie, Pensilvania, tampoco dio más detalles sobre el plan. Como señalaron los observadores, la vicepresidenta ni siquiera mencionó términos asociados con la industria de la criptografía, como “blockchain” o “activos digitales”, en su discurso.
Un crítico, Nikolaus Hoffman de la revista Bitcoin, llamado Harris es “la peor candidata para Bitcoin”, y describe su última promesa como “basada en la raza”.
El escriba comparó su enfoque con el de Donald Trump, que consideró “mucho mejor”, dado que el expresidente había dado detalles específicos sobre lo que pretende hacer con las criptomonedas.
La postura pro-criptomonedas de Trump gana impulso
El propio equipo de Harris no tuvo palabras amables para Trump, afirmando que había “mostrado repetidamente un abierto desprecio por los estadounidenses negros y los hombres negros”. Sin embargo, el candidato republicano, que recientemente se declaró “Criptopresidente”, ha logrado muchos avances dentro de la comunidad.
Después de años de desacreditar los activos virtuales, Trump aparentemente cambió de opinión en este ciclo electoral. Abrazó la industria con todo su corazón e hizo grandes promesas de establecer reguladores más amigables, así como de crear un consejo asesor de Bitcoin si ganaba la carrera presidencial.
Apenas el mes pasado, Trump fue noticia cuando visitó PubKey, un bar de Nueva York que acepta criptomonedas, y compró hamburguesas.
El hombre de 78 años parece estar vinculándose aún más estrechamente con el sector de activos digitales después de que su familia encabezara un nuevo proyecto de finanzas descentralizadas (DeFi) denominado World Liberty Financial (WLF). Se espera que el proyecto comience a vender su token WLFI nativo, ya que busca recaudar 300 millones de dólares.
Harris, por su parte, ha tenido que deshacerse de la etiqueta anti-criptomonedas que la acompañó como parte de la administración Biden.
El rostro de la administración en la Comisión de Bolsa y Valores (SEC), Gary Gensler, se ha vuelto enormemente impopular en los círculos criptográficos por lo que algunos perciben como una extralimitación regulatoria en su vigilancia de la industria.
