Mientras tanto, el acuerdo de 4 mil millones de dólares de Binance es notable como la sanción más alta jamás impuesta contra una empresa de criptografía operativa. Puesto de represión intensificada FTX
El agregador de datos criptográficos, en su informe publicado a principios de esta semana, reveló que 25 acciones de aplicación de las criptomonedas en EE. UU. han dado lugar a acuerdos que superan los 10 millones de dólares cada uno, con sanciones totales de estos casos que ascienden a casi 32 mil millones de dólares, lo que indica una creciente represión contra la industria.
De las 25 principales acciones de aplicación de las criptomonedas en los EE. UU., se han finalizado 16 acuerdos en los últimos dos años. Esto fue esencialmente indicativo de una supervisión regulatoria intensificada tras el dramático colapso de FTX, liderado por el ejecutivo caído en desgracia Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF) a finales de 2022.
Los datos sugieren que solo en 2023, los reguladores estadounidenses resolvieron ocho demandas importantes, por un valor total de 10.870 millones de dólares, una cantidad récord y un sorprendente aumento del 8.327,1% en comparación con el año anterior.
Varias victorias para los reguladores estadounidenses
De 2019 a 2022, los reguladores estadounidenses consiguieron ocho acuerdos importantes en importantes demandas sobre criptomonedas. El primero ocurrió a finales de 2019, cuando la SEC llegó a un acuerdo de 24 millones de dólares con Block.one, la empresa detrás de EOS, para vender valores no registrados.
En 2020, la SEC ganó dos casos adicionales: BitClave acordó pagar 29,34 millones de dólares en mayo, y Telegram recibió una multa de 1,240 millones de dólares por su oferta de token Gram, que incluía una devolución de 1,220 millones de dólares y una multa civil de 18,5 millones de dólares.
Durante el mercado alcista de 2021, los reguladores registraron tres acuerdos notables, comenzando con el emisor de la moneda estable Tether, que llegó a un acuerdo con el Fiscal General de Nueva York por 18,5 millones de dólares y luego llegó a un acuerdo de 41 millones de dólares con la CFTC con respecto a las reclamaciones de respaldo en dólares para su moneda estable USDT.
La CFTC también sancionó a la empresa matriz de Tether, Bitfinex, con un acuerdo de 1,5 millones de dólares por transacciones ilegales. Además, los exchanges de criptomonedas Poloniex y BitMEX resolvieron sus demandas por 10,39 millones de dólares y 100 millones de dólares, respectivamente, en agosto de 2021.
Mientras tanto, en 2022, el prestamista de criptomonedas BlockFi y el exchange de criptomonedas Bittrex llegaron a un acuerdo por 100 millones de dólares y 29 millones de dólares, respectivamente, con la SEC y el Departamento del Tesoro.
